This is for studying, never for the testing centre. The TEAS is closed-book. Taking notes of any kind into the exam is cheating and will invalidate your result.
Conversions
- 1 kg = 2.2 lb. Divide pounds by 2.2 to get kilograms
- 1 inch = 2.54 cm · 1 foot = 12 inches · 1 mile ≈ 1.61 km
- 1 L = 1,000 mL · 1 kg = 1,000 g · 1 m = 100 cm
- 1 tsp = 5 mL · 1 tbsp = 15 mL · 1 cup = 8 fl oz
- °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32 · °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
Maths formulas
- Percentage of a number: whole × (percent ÷ 100)
- Percentage change: (new − original) ÷ original × 100
- Proportion: a/b = c/d, solved by cross-multiplying
- Slope: rise ÷ run, the change in y over the change in x
- Mean = sum ÷ count · Median = middle value · Mode = most frequent
Geometry
- Rectangle area = length × width · Perimeter = 2(l + w)
- Triangle area = ½ × base × height
- Circle area = πr² · Circumference = 2πr
- Pythagoras: a² + b² = c², where c is the hypotenuse
- Area answers carry squared units; volume answers carry cubed units
Anatomy & physiology
- Blood: body → right atrium → right ventricle → lungs → left atrium → left ventricle → body
- The left ventricle is the thickest chamber; it pumps against systemic pressure
- Air: nose → pharynx → larynx → trachea → bronchi → bronchioles → alveoli
- Nervous system: central (brain, cord) and peripheral (somatic, autonomic)
- Sympathetic = fight or flight · Parasympathetic = rest and digest
- Insulin lowers blood glucose · Glucagon raises it
- Nephron = functional unit of the kidney · Alveolus = gas exchange in the lung
Biology & chemistry
- DNA base pairing: A–T and C–G
- Mitochondria make ATP · Ribosomes build proteins · Nucleus holds DNA
- Passive transport needs no energy; active transport uses ATP
- Osmosis moves water: cells swell in hypotonic, shrink in hypertonic solutions
- pH: 0–14, 7 is neutral, acids below, bases above; each step is a tenfold change
- Arterial blood pH is held between 7.35 and 7.45
- Atomic number = protons · Mass number = protons + neutrons
English rules
- Its = possessive · It's = it is
- Their = possessive · There = place · They're = they are
- Affect is usually the verb · Effect is usually the noun
- Comma after an introductory phrase; never between subject and verb
- Two independent clauses need a semicolon, a full stop, or a comma plus conjunction
- Ignore words between subject and verb when checking agreement
- Affixes: hyper- above · hypo- below · brady- slow · tachy- fast · -itis inflammation · -ectomy removal
Formulas are the easy part. Applying them under a clock is not.
