Scoring

How the TEAS Is Scored

Section weighting

31% Reading 39 scored questions
22% Mathematics 34 scored questions
31% Science 44 scored questions
16% English and Language Usage 33 scored questions

Weighting figures are those commonly reported by prep providers. ATI does not publish per-section weighting in its content specifications, so treat them as a guide rather than an official scale. Scored question counts are official.

Score interpretation

90-100% Advanced Clears the requirement at competitive BSN programmes as well as ADN programmes.
80-89% Proficient Meets the published minimum at most BSN programmes.
70-79% Proficient Meets many programme minimums. Competitive BSN programmes often ask for more.
60-69% Basic Meets the minimum at some ADN programmes. Below most BSN requirements.
Below 60% Below Basic Below most published programme requirements.
There is no universal passing score

ATI does not set a pass mark. Each nursing programme sets its own minimum, and many also set minimums for individual sections.

Score validity is set by your program

Programmes commonly accept scores from roughly the past two years. The rule is set by the school, not by ATI.

Figures on this page are taken from ATI's published TEAS 7 content specifications.

Find your weakest section before test day, not on it

We get it

The TEAS can be stressful. It doesn't have to be.

Common situations most students encounter before exam day.

Your test date is close and you have not started?

Sit a timed mixed set first, rank the four sections by score, then give the weakest two most of the time you have left.

You have studied, but your score is not moving?

Read the rationale on every question, including the ones you answered correctly, and re-test the concepts you missed.

You run out of time on Reading and Maths?

English allows about 60 seconds a question and Reading about 73. Practise in timed mode to build pace.

Science feels like a wall?

Science carries 44 scored items, 18 of them anatomy and physiology. Practise by body system, one at a time.

Study plan

Practical 8-Week TEAS 7 Study Plan

A week-by-week plan built around the question bank and timed exams in this course. Study 1–2 hours daily, or halve the timeline by doubling the daily question count.

  1. Weeks 1–2

    Diagnose, then Reading

    • Sit one full timed mixed set before studying anything
    • Rank all four sections by score and write the order down
    • Practise main idea, inference and author's purpose
    • Read every rationale, including for questions you got right
  2. Weeks 3–4

    Maths foundations

    • Fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios until they are automatic
    • Drill unit conversions: lbs ↔ kg, Β°F ↔ Β°C, mL ↔ L
    • Practise reading data from tables and graphs under time
    • Sit two timed Maths-only sets and compare your pace
  3. Weeks 5–6

    Science, the biggest section

    • One body system per day rather than re-reading the whole syllabus
    • Make your own recall cards for anatomy and physiology
    • Cover biology, chemistry and scientific reasoning separately
    • Keep a written log of every concept you miss twice
  4. Weeks 7–8

    English and full rehearsal

    • Punctuation, sentence structure and commonly confused words
    • Practise alternate item types, not only multiple choice
    • Sit at least three full-length timed exams in one sitting
    • Spend the final week re-testing only your logged misses

How you practise

Three Practice Modes on the Same Question Set

When you build a practice test you pick the mode. The same questions serve learning and exam rehearsal, so nothing has to be bought or repeated twice.

Tutor Mode

The rationale appears as soon as you answer, so a question you get wrong becomes a short lesson rather than a note to look up later.

Best for: Learning content you have not met yet, or have forgotten.

Timed Mode

A countdown runs while you work and the score breakdown arrives at the end. Builds the pace a 209-minute exam demands.

Best for: The final weeks, and any time the clock is the problem.

Standard Mode

No timer and no rationale until you submit, then a full review of every question you answered.

Best for: Straight rehearsal without either prompt.

Strategy

Top TEAS Test-Taking Strategies

Six decisions that change your score, drawn from the official ATI blueprint and how the course is built to practise it.

01

Diagnose before you study

Take a full timed set before studying. The score breakdown ranks your four sections so you know which to prioritise.

02

Eliminate before you choose

Eliminating two wrong options moves a guess from 25% to 50%.

03

Treat every question as scored

20 of the 170 questions are unscored pretest items: 6 Reading, 4 Maths, 6 Science, 4 English. None is identifiable during the exam.

04

Practise all five question formats

ATI uses multiple choice, multiple select, fill in the blank, ordered response and hot spot.

05

Drill with the clock on

English allows about 60 seconds a question, Science about 72, Reading about 73 and Maths about 90.

06

Ask your programme for its number

ATI sets no pass mark. Each programme sets its own minimum, and some also set minimums per section.

Why not free resources

Better than most TEAS Prep Platforms

Comprehensive questions, rationales and tracking all in one place.

Other Platforms

  • Answers scattered across forums, decks and PDFs
  • No way to tell if a question matches TEAS 7 difficulty
  • Mostly single-answer multiple choice, so four of the five ATI formats go unpractised
  • No timing, so pacing problems only show up on test day
  • No record of what you missed, and nothing to re-test it against

NursingPrep Central

  • 1,600+ questions organised by section, sub-content area and topic

  • 130+ timed exam sets matched to the 209-minute structure
  • Tutorial, timed, combined and standard modes on the same question set
